On the eastern side of the island of Krk lies the municipality of Dobrinj, with its center of the same name. Dobrinj is located on a hill about 200 meters high and is one of the medieval fortified settlements that were once centers of literacy.
Dobrinjština has for centuries been a distinctly agricultural area. Livestock breeding and olive growing were also represented, as well as the use of forest resources. The place is also known for its colorful folk costume, folklore events, the sopela school (a wind instrument from Krk), and traditional local cuisine. In this island center, autochthonous stone houses and narrow stone streets prevail, exuding the atmosphere of times gone by.
Not far from Dobrinj is the Biserujka cave, which delights visitors with its beauty and the interesting stalactite and stalagmite formations. It is the only cave on the island, out of more than 50, that has been arranged for visitor access. According to legend, the cave got its name Biserujka (pearl) from the treasure found there, which belonged to local pirates.
