Njivice, not far from Omišalj, have always been part of the Omišalj castle estate, and today of the Municipality of Omišalj. The place was probably inhabited already in antiquity, and it is first mentioned in written sources in 1474 in the donation charter of Prince Ivan VII Frankopan.

Over the past centuries, it was a small Krk village whose inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing, olive growing, livestock breeding, and forest exploitation. Houses right on the seashore, small boats and fishing nets, and crates full of fish have for centuries been the recognizable image of Njivice.
