It is located in the heart of northern Istria, at 348 m above sea level, where the limestone formations of Ćićarija and Učka meet the marl terrain that shapes the valleys and ridges below these two mountains.

It was first mentioned in 1064.

After the fall of Venice, Roč became part of the Illyrian Provinces and later Austria. In the first half of the twentieth century, the impact of fascism was also felt in Roč until Italy's capitulation in 1943. Following anti-fascist resistance and liberation, Roč became part of Yugoslavia and, from 1991, the Republic of Croatia.
