Gacka Valley is a large karst field bordered by Velebit toward the sea and by Kapela toward the interior. The field is dominated by the Gacka River, which rises at one end of the field and sinks at the other. By length, Gacka is the third sinking river in the world, and its original course is 32 km long. Due to the gentle elevation drop, its flow is calm and winding, while the water of Gacka is exceptionally clean and rich in oxygen.
