Svetvinčenat, Savičenta and San Vincenti are three names for the same place, and they originate from the name of the patron saint, the Hispanic martyr Saint Vincent, after whom one of the five churches in the town is named.

Savičenta is distinguished by the Renaissance square Placa with Morosini-Grimani Castle, the symbol of the town and one of the most important fortresses of the Venetian army of that period in Istria.

An important part of Svetvinčenat's cultural heritage consists of the preserved and highly valued remains of wall frescoes in the chapel of Saint Vincent near the town cemetery and in the church of Saint Catherine.
