Njivice, near Omišalj, have always been part of the Omišalj castle estate, and today of the Municipality of Omišalj. The place was probably inhabited as early as antiquity, and it is first mentioned in written sources in 1474 in the donation deed of Prince Ivan VII Frankopan.

Over the past centuries, this was a small Krk village whose inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing, olive growing, livestock breeding, and forest exploitation. Houses right by the sea, small boats and fishing nets, and "kašete" full of fish have for centuries been the recognizable image of Njivice.

Njivice are the youngest place on the island of Krk and developed precisely thanks to tourism. In 1930, the first hotel was built, which marked the beginning of the transformation of the small fishing village into one of the stronger tourist centers on the island of Krk.
