Njivice, not far from Omišalj, have always been part of the Omišalj castle district, and today of the Municipality of Omišalj. The place was probably inhabited as early as antiquity. It is first mentioned in written sources in 1474 in the donation charter of Prince Ivan VII Frankopan.

Over the past centuries, this was a small Krk village whose inhabitants were mainly engaged in fishing, olive growing, livestock breeding, and forest exploitation. Houses right on the seashore, small boats and fishing nets, and fish-filled "kašete" have for centuries been the recognizable image of Njivice.

Njivice are the youngest place on the island of Krk, and they developed precisely thanks to tourism. In 1930, the first hotel was built, which marked the transformation of the small fishing village into what is today one of the stronger tourist centers on the island of Krk.
