The caves Šandalja I and II, about ten meters apart, have been explored, where the remains of a Homo erectus incisor, one million years old, were found, pointing to the oldest prehistoric human in Europe. The oldest percussion tool in Europe, a flint hammerstone, was also found at this site. Several quarries are located in the Valtura area, and the limestone of the same name extracted here is used for cladding interior and exterior surfaces. The village is also home to the neo-Gothic Church of Saint John from 1899, whose 28-meter bell tower has a unique appearance and was built in the shape of an octagon.
