Lovran has preserved its historic core of medieval urban design. The old town was surrounded by defensive walls and bastions, on whose foundations and walls houses were gradually built over time.

The courtyards of the Old Town are a distinctive charm and a special feature of Mediterranean urban architecture. Behind the stone portal, the facades of neighboring houses can be seen, adorned with stairways, porches, and covered passages, while at the center of the courtyard rises the stone opening of a cistern.

The abundance of vegetation and the high salt concentration in the sea result in rich plant and marine aerosols in the air. All of these elements make Lovran's climate highly stimulating and beneficial to health.
